Introduction

This manual covers the Toyota Camry and Avalon, and Lexus ES 350 models. All models are four-door sedans.

The transversely mounted inline four-cylinder (Camry models only) and V6 engines (available on all models) are equipped with electronic port fuel injection.

The engine drives the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or a five-or six-speed automatic transaxle via independent driveaxles.

Independent suspension, featuring coil spring/strut damper units, is used on all four wheels. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering unit is mounted behind the engine.

The brakes are disc-type at the front and rear, with power assist standard. All models are equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS).

Modifications are a continuing and unpublicized process in vehicle manufacturing. Since spare parts manuals and lists are compiled on a numerical basis, the individual vehicle numbers are essential to correctly identify the component required.

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

This very important identification number is stamped on a plate attached to the dashboard inside the windshield on the driver’s side of the vehicle (see illustration). It can also be found on the certification label located on the driver’s side door post. The VIN also appears on the Vehicle Certificate of Title and Registration. It contains information such as where and when the vehicle was manufactured, the model year and the body style.

Manufacturer’s Certification Regulation label

The certification label is attached to the end of the driver’s door post (see illustration). The plate contains the name of the manufacturer, the month and year of production, the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and the certification statement.

VIN model year code

Counting from the left, the model year code letter designation is the 10th character. On all models covered by this manual the model year codes are:

7……………. 2007
8……………. 2008
9……………. 2009
A……………. 2010
B……………..2011
C……………. 2012
D …………..  2013
E……………. 2014
F……………. 2015
G……………. 2016
H……………. 2017

Engine numbers

The engine code number can be found in a variety of locations, depending on engine type (see illustrations). Camry models can be equipped with either the 2AZ-FE four-cylinder (through 2009), the 2AR-FE four-cylinder (2010 and later) or the 2GR-FE V6. Avalon and Lexus ES 350 models are only available with the 2GR-FE V6 engine.

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is located on a plate on top of the dash (visible through the windshield)
