Park / Neutral Position (PNP) switch — removal, installation and adjustment

1. The Park/Neutral Position switch incorporates the Park/Neutral function as well as the backup light switch and transmission gear position information, which it sends to the PCM. The Park/Neutral function of the switch other than Park or Neutral. If the engine starts with the shift lever in any position other than Park or Neutral, adjust the switch. The Park/ Neutral Position switch is also an information sensor for the Electronic Controlled Transaxle (ECT) Electronic Control Unit (ECU). When the shift lever is placed in position, the Park/ Neutral position switch sends a voltage signal to the ECU.

Replacement

2009 and earlier four-cylinder models (U250E)

2. Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Remove the manual lever retaining nut and its lock plate (see illustration). Note: Bend the tabs flat on the lock plate before removing it (if equipped).

5. Remove the switch retaining bolts (see illustration 4.17).

6. Remove the switch.

7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to adjust the switch.

All V6 models and 2010 and later four-cylinder models (U660E and U760E)

8. Remove the engine cover (see V6 engine or Four-cylinder engines).

9. Remove the air filter housing and air inlet (see Fuel and exhaust systems).

10. Remove the transaxle cable bracket clip.
11. Remove the transaxle control cable retaining nut and remove the cable from the lever.

12. Disconnect the wiring harness clamp and electrical connector from the switch.

13. Remove the control shaft lever nut, washer and lever from the switch assembly.

14. Remove the switch retaining bolts and clean any dirt from the switch area.

15. Remove the switch.

16. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to adjust the switch.

Adjustment

2009 and earlier four-cylinder models (U250E)

17. Loosen the switch retaining bolts and rotate the switch until the groove and the neutral basic line on the switch are aligned see illustration). Hold the switch in this position and tighten the bolts. Note: The pointer on the sheet metal lock plate will indicate the alignment of the groove on the shaft with the Neutral line on the body of the switch.

All V6 models and 2010 and later four-cylinder models

(U660E and U760E)

19. Loosen the switch retaining bolts and rotate the switch until the protrusion on the hub of the switch is aligned with the protrusion on the switch body (see illustration). Hold the switch in this position and tighten the bolts.
