Shift lock system — description and component replacement

Description

1. The shift lock system prevents the shift lever from being shifted out of Park until the brake pedal is applied and the key is turned to the «ON» position. The system consists of the brake light switch, a key interlock solenoid, a shift lock override button, a shift lock motor, and a shift lock control computer that incorporates a switch operated by the shift lever.

Component replacement

2. Remove the center console (see Body).

3. The shift lock control computer is located at the bottom of the shift lever base on the left side. Disconnect the electrical connector and unclip the shift-lock computer from the shifter assembly

4. The key interlock solenoid is located near the ignition switch (see Ignition switch and key lock cylinder — replacement).
