Door latch, lock cylinder and handle — removal and installation
Warning: Wear gloves when working inside the door openings to protect against cuts from sharp metal edges.
Door latch
1. Raise the window, then remove the door trim panel and water shield (see Door trim panels — removal and installation).
2. Working through the large access hole, disengage the rod to the outside handle and the lock cylinder.
3. The door lock rod is attached by pals- tic clips. The plastic clips can be removed by unsnapping the portion engaging the connecting rod and pulling the rod out of its locating hole.
4. Remove the screws securing the latch to the door (see illustration) and pull the latch back enough to disconnect the electrical connector at the latch. Remove the latch assembly through the door opening with the two cables from the inside door handle still attached to the latch.
18.4 The latch is secured to the door with three screws
5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Door lock cylinder
6. To remove the outside handle and lock cylinder assembly, raise the window and remove the door trim panel and water shield (see Door trim panels — removal and installation).
Caution: Take care not to scratch the paint on the outside of the door. Wide masking tape applied around the handle opening before beginning the procedure can help avoid scratches.
7. Remove an access plug at the rear of the door (jamb side).
8. Working through the access hole, loosen the TORX screw (see illustration) and remove the lock cylinder cover and the door lock key cylinder as a unit (see illustration).
18.8a Remove the rubber plug at the end of the door and use a Torx tool through the hole to loosen the lock cylinder bolt (the bolt does not come out)
18.8b Slide the lock cylinder out
Note: The TORX screw can’t be fully removed, it is a part of the outside handle.
9. Once the lock cylinder is out, disengage the lock cover clips using a screwdriver and separate the cover from the lock cylinder.
10. Installation is the reverse of removal.

11. Once the lock cylinder has been removed, slide the exterior handle rearward and out to remove it (see illustration). Note: On models with Smart Key Systems, disconnect the electrical connector to the handle then slides the handle back, then pull out and remove the handle with the harness.

12. Working from the outside of the door, remove the handle assembly exterior mounting screw.
13. From inside of the door, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the mounting screw, disconnect the lock rod clip and move the lock rod away from the handle (see illustration).
