Rear package shelf — removal and installation

Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with Supplemental Restraint

airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbags, which could cause personal injury (see Chassis electrical system).

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).

2. Remove the rear seat backs (see Seats — removal and installation).

3. Remove the rear scuff plate and side trim.

Note: If equipped, disconnect the reclining remote control connector from the side trim panels.

4. Carefully pry the rear side trim panels from the pillars and remove the side trim panels.

5. Carefully pry out the rear seat belt shoulder covers from the package shelf.

6. Remove the bolts from the shoulder belts.

7. Flip up the covers over the child safety belt hooks and unbolt the hooks.

8. Starting from the front and working towards the rear of the package shelf, pry the retaining clips up and remove the tray and sunshade (if equipped) assembly up and over the seat belt assemblies.

9. Disconnect the high-mount brake light electrical connector and remove the package shelf from the vehicle.

10. Installation is the reverse of removal. If removed, torque the lower seat belt bolts to 31 ft-lbs.
