Trunk release and fuel door release — removal and installation
Trunk release switch
1. Remove the trunk lid trim panel (see Trunk lid and rear spoiler- removal, installation and adjustment).
2. Remove the trunk latch and lock assembly (see Trunk lid latch and lock cylinder — removal and installation).
3. From inside the trunk lid, remove the trim mounting nuts. From the outside of the trunk lid, carefully pry the trim piece off of the lid. Note: Put tape against the trunk lid to prevent the lid from being scratched.
4. Remove the trunk release switch mount- in screws, disconnect the harness clips and remove the switch from the trim panel.
5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Fuel door release
Note: On some models, the fuel door release is electrically operated — there is no cable.
Motor
6. Inside the trunk, remove the floor mat, spare tire and left-side trim panel for access to the fuel door release motor.
7. Open the fuel door and remove the nut. Remove the motor lock-to-door cable by turning the sleeve at the end of the cable counterclockwise and pulling back on the sleeve (see illustration).

8. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the mounting nut (see illustration). Remove the motor and fuel door as an assembly.

9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Cable
10. Inside the trunk, remove the floor mat and left-side panel for access to the fuel door cable end. Push in the tabs of the fuel door latch cable end (white plastic part) and pull it from the fuel door housing (see illustration 15.7). To remove the cable end retainer (black plastic), twist it out of the bracket.
11. Remove the rear seat bottom (see Seats — removal and installation).
12. Remove the center door pillar’s lower trim panel.
13. Peel back the carpeting to access the release cable. Open all of the clips holding the cable to the body.
14. Remove the bolt holding the release handle assembly to the floor (see illustration).

15. Turn the housing over and remove the cable housings from the clips and the eyes from the levers (see illustration).

16. Attach a piece of thin wire to the end of the cable.
17. Working in the trunk compartment, pull the cable towards the rear of the vehicle until you can see the wire.
18. Attach the wire to the front of the new cable and fish it back through the body until it can be attached to the lever. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
