Parking brake — adjustment
Lever type
1. The parking brake lever, when properly adjusted, should travel seven to nine clicks when a moderate pulling force is applied. If it travels less than five clicks, there’s a chance the parking brake might not be releasing completely. If the lever can be pulled up more than eight clicks, the parking brake may not hold adequately on an incline, allowing the car to roll.
2. To gain access to the parking brake cable adjuster, remove the center console (see Body).
3. Loosen the locknut (the upper nut) while holding the adjusting nut (lower nut) with a wrench (see illustration). Tighten the adjusting nut until the desired travel is attained. Tighten the locknut.
