Ignition switch and key lock cylinder — replacement
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag(s), which could cause personal injury (see Airbag system — general information).
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Place the ignition key in the ACC position.
3. Remove the steering wheel (see Suspension and steering systems).
4. Remove the steering column covers (see Body).
5. Remove the steering column switches (see Steering column switches — replacement).

9.7 Remove the interlock solenoid mounting screws and solenoid
8. Installation is reverse of removal.
Lock cylinder — without Smart Key System
9. Carefully pry the transponder key amplifier switch mounting clips outwards and slide the transponder forward to detach it and the bracket from the steering column.
10. Turn the ignition switch to ON (ACC).
11. Use a small screwdriver or punch inserted into the hole in the top of the steering column bracket, to depress the locking claw and pull the ignition switch lock cylinder out until its claw comes into contact with the stopper of the steering column bracket.
12. Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the hole inside of the steering column bracket and tilt it downward to disengage the claw. Pull the ignition switch lock cylinder out (see illustration).
9.12 With the lock cylinder in the ACC position , depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver, then pull the cylinder straight out
13. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
Lock Actuator — with Smart Key System
Note: After replacing the steering lock actuator assembly, perform the key ID code registration by opening and closing the driver’s door. The engine may not start until the driver’s door has been opened and closed.
14. Remove the steering column (see Suspension and steering systems) and place the column in a soft jaw vise.
15. Using a grinder or small hacksaw blade, cut a slot into the steering lock shear bolt heads.
16. Use a screwdriver to back the bolts out and remove the actuator.
17. Install the steering lock actuator and steering column clamp with new steering lock shear-head bolts, then tighten the bolts until their heads break off.
