Steering column switches — replacement
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag(s), which could cause personal injury (see Section 26).
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Remove the steering wheel (see Suspension and steering systems).
3. Remove the steering column covers (see Body).
Windshield wiper switch
4. Unplug the electrical connectors from the combination switch.
5. Lift the locking tab up and slide the switch out from the combination switch assembly (see illustration).

6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Headlight/turn signal switch
7. Unplug the electrical connectors from the combination switch.
Note: On models equipped with a telescopic steering column, disconnect the electrical connector to the telescopic switch, then disconnect the mounting clips and remove the switch.
8. Remove the windshield wiper switch (see illustration 8.5).
9. Using pliers, squeeze the spring mounting clip at the top of the combination switch and pull the combination switch and clock-spring as an assembly from the column.
10. Installation is the reverse of removal.
