Air conditioning receiver/drier — removal and installation
Warning: The air conditioning system is under high pressure. Do not loosen any hose fittings or remove any components until the system has been discharged. Air conditioning refrigerant must be properly discharged into an EPA-approved recovery/ recycling unit by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. Always wear eye protection when disconnecting air conditioning system fittings.
1. Have the refrigerant discharged by an air conditioning technician.
2. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
3. Remove the condenser (see Air conditioning condenser — removal and installation). Using an Allen wrench, detach the end plug (see illustration) and remove the receiver/ drier from the condenser.
12.3 After the system has been discharged, remove the Allen plug and pull the receiver/drier from the tube on the condenser
4. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the end plug to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
5. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. If the receiver/drier was replaced, have them add the proper amount of refrigeration oil to the compressor. Use only compressor oil compatible with R-134a refrigerant.
