Catalytic converter(s) — replacement

Note: Because of a Federally mandated extended warranty which covers emissions-related components such as the catalytic converter, check with a dealer service department before replacing the converter at your own expense.

Note: The catalytic converter (s) are incorporated into the exhaust manifold(s). Refer to Four-cylinder engines or V6 engine for the exhaust manifold replacement procedure.

1. Remove the upstream oxygen sensor (s) (see Oxygen sensor / air-fuel ratio sensor — replacement).

2. Remove the exhaust manifold (s) (see Four-cylinder engines or V6 engine). The catalytic converter(s) is an integral part of the exhaust manifold and cannot be replaced separately. If the catalytic converter(s) is bad, the exhaust manifold must be replaced.

3. Installation is the reverse of removal.
