Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor — replacement

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).

2. The sensor is mounted on the timing chain cover next to the crankshaft pulley.

3. Raise the front of the vehicle and sup- port it securely on jack stands.

4. Loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands, then remove the wheel. Remove the inner fender splash shield (see Body).

Four-cylinder models 2009 and earlier models

5. Remove the drivebelt (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

6. Remove the alternator (see Engine electrical systems).

7. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector at the harness (see illustration).

V6 models

Note: The CKP sensor is located at the front lower right corner of the engine

14. Remove the drivebelt (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

15. Remove the alternator (see Engine electrical systems).

16. Remove the bolt that secures the air conditioning suction line at the front of the engine, disconnect the electrical connector from the air conditioning compressor and unbolt the compressor (see Cooling, heating and air conditioning systems)

Warning: Do NOT disconnect the air conditioning hoses from the compressor. Move the compressor aside and support it with wire or rope.

17. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector (see illustration).

7.17 On V6 models, the CKP sensor is located at the front corner of the engine behind the air conditioning compressor. To disconnect the electrical connector (A), slide the white plastic lock to the rear and pull off the connector. (B) is the sensor mounting bolt
