Transaxle Speed Sensors — replacement
1. The sensor (s) is an electronic component that produces a pulsing voltage signal whenever the input and output shaft is rotated. These voltage pulses are monitored by the PCM, which uses this information to help control the fuel and ignition systems and transaxle shifting.
0250E 5-speed transaxle (2009 and earlier four-cylinder models)
2. The Transaxle Speed Sensors (see illustrations), one for the turbine (input) shaft and one for the counter gear (output) shaft. On 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models, the sensors are located on top of the transaxle.
13.2a the turbine (input) shaft sensor is located on the front of the transaxle 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models
13.2b the counter gear (output) shaft sensor is located on the top of the transaxle — 2009 and earlier four-cylinder models
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
4. Unscrew the sensor from the transaxle.
5. Replace the 0-ring.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
U660E/U760E 6-speed transaxles (all other models)
7. There is only one Transaxle Speed Sensor used on the six-speed transaxles. The speed sensor is mounted inside the transaxle on the top of the valve body. Replacement requires removing the transaxle fluid pan, filter and valve body. Due to the sensitive nature of the valve body, this job is best left to a transmission specialist.
