Fuel pressure relief procedure
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable.
1. Remove the fuel filler cap to relieve any pressure built-up in the fuel tank.
2. Remove the rear seat cushion (see Body).
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump (see illustration).
4. Start the engine and allow it to run until it dies.
5. Operate the starter motor once again to make sure the engine doesn’t start (indicating that the fuel pressure has been relieved).
6. If the engine did not start, the fuel pressure is now relieved. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery before performing any work on the fuel system (see Engine electrical systems).
7. Although the fuel pressure is relieved, be prepared for fuel spillage whenever disconnecting any part of the fuel system. Properly dispose of any fuel-soaked rags.
