Throttle body — removal and installation
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system.
Warning: Wait until the engine is completely cool before beginning this procedure.
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Battery — disconnection and reconnection).
2. Remove the engine cover (s).
3. Loosen the air intake duct clamps, then remove the air intake duct and air filter housing (see Air filter housing — removal and installation).
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle control motor.
5. Clamp-off the coolant hoses leading to the throttle body.
6. Clearly label, then detach, all vacuum and coolant hoses from the throttle body. Plug the coolant hoses to prevent coolant leakage.
Caution: Make sure no coolant is allowed to drain into the intake manifold.
7. Remove the throttle body mounting nuts/ bolts (see illustrations).

8. Detach the throttle body and gasket from the intake manifold.
9. Installation of the throttle body is the reverse of removal. Use a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
10. Be sure to tighten the throttle body mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
11. Check the coolant level and add some, if necessary, to bring it to the appropriate level (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
