Electric Power Steering (EPS) (2012 and later models) — general information
1. The EPS system consists of a power steering ECU, torque sensor, power steering motor and a motor rotation angle sensor. During operation, the ECU monitors vehicle speed as well as input from the torque sensor and motor rotation angle sensor. It then operates the power steering motor and reduction gear to generate torque and provide an appropriate level of steering assist for current operating conditions. The system increases steering assist during low-speed operation, and it decreases assist at high speeds.
2. If the electric power steering unit requires service, take the vehicle to a dealership or other qualified repair shop. Calibrating the unit after repair requires tools not available to most home mechanics.
